SQL sever can be licensed per processor or on a server and Client Access Licence (CAL) basis and the differences between the two can have an enormous effect on your compliance status and IT budget. Get it right and you’ll enjoy the most cost effective way of utilising the power of the product – get it wrong and you could be wasting a serious amount of money AND be non compliant, neither of which are attractive options.
 

Remember, even if you have deployed a discovery tool you might still be at risk as they cannot detect CALs (as they are licence agreements and not software) or per processor licences, so you’ll have to put some time in to analyse your position ... better still ask us to do it for you!
