Microsoft Open Media Purchasing – new rules from July 2008
Purchasing Open Media via VLSC will be the only Open Media Fulfillment method from July.
Overview:
- Since November 2007, Open Licence customers are able to download fulfilment media from the Volume Licensing Service Centre (VLSC) as per their licence entitlement.
- Since December 2008, Open Licence customers are able to purchase physical media, if preferred, by placing an online order through VLSC.
From July 11th 2008, fulfilment media through the channel will be stopped.
Benefits to this are:
- Reduced lead-time and fulfilment cost to deploy software, if download is preferred option.
- VLSC is a single repository for buying customers, 24/7 access, to retrieve all licence detail including: Licence entitlement, volume licence keys, option to download media and option to purchase physical media.
- Supports environmental strategy i.e. reducing waste/packaging.
