What is Infrastructure Optimisation?
If you ask many people what is Infrastructure Optimisation (IO) the response will simply be "optimising your infrastructure", and you know what, they are right, even if the answer is a little simplistic. A little more detailed answer is that IO is a methodology and a set of business management tools that can be applied to capabilities (such as Service Management) within an organisation to:
- Understand where they currently are operating vs. the best practice standards in regards to People, Process and Technology
- Define the goal state by working to criteria to measure maturity in this capability space
- Plan the roadmap to take an organisation from its current state to its goal
Trustmarque recognises that IO can be an invaluable benefit to our clients as it can provide tangible benefits whilst providing a structure for a long term plan by which to develop the organisation's key capabilities.
As the methodology of Infrastructure Optimisation can be applied to such a multitude of IT Solutions, Trustmarque have initially focused our attention on streams where we see IO delivering crucial benefits to our clients. These streams currently are:
- Desktop, Device & Server Management
- Collaboration & Information Management
- Enterprise Management Systems
These core streams are supported by our wider delivery capabilities around our client's infrastructure.
What does Infrastructure Optimisation mean to our clients?
Over the past decade organisations have often taken a project based or problem based approach to the development of their IT infrastructure and supporting systems. This has meant that businesses find themselves in a situation where they have multiple and diverse IT systems and mixed desktop environments, resulting in the estate being very costly and time consuming to support and integrate.
IO provides clients with the ability to take an organisation view of their environment and assess where they are, where they want to get to from a business context and then plan this development for delivery through IT. The business management function allows organisations to develop their vision for how they deliver service and help align the IT department to the business.
